JPN Sabah Collects Data on School Damage Due to Floods
KOTA KINABALUMarch 5 (Bernama) — The Sabah State Education Department (JPN) is in the process of collecting data on the damage to 67 primary and secondary schools in six districts affected by the recent floods in the state.
NRD Sabah director Datuk Raisin Saidin said the gradual flooding affected 5,530 students, 530 teachers and more than 220 members of school executive groups.
The process of collecting data on the actual amount of damage caused by flooding is expected to be completed in the near future and a complete report will be submitted to the Ministry of Education and Culture (KPM) for follow-up, he said.
He was speaking to journalists after the launch of the Sabah Higher Education Student Contribution Initiative (SENTOSA) program by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor at the Kota Kinabalu Polytechnic here today.
Raisin said that currently his party is using the existing allocation for immediate maintenance work, while the remaining financial needs will be requested from the Ministry of Environment.
Regarding schools which are often flooded, he said the relocation proposal was being considered as a long-term step.
Taking the example of the Bawang National School, Beluran, which is often hit by floods, his party will look for a new location to ensure that the school is no longer flooded due to this disaster.
