Syed Saddiq Completes 170KM Thanksgiving Run, Raising Over RM600,000
MUAR, July 19 (Bernama) — Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abd Rahman today successfully completed the 170 kilometer (km) “Gratitude Run” at Laman Maharani here, thus completing the charity mission that started on July 16.
His arrival at 09.15 was greeted by around 2,000 local residents who had been waiting since early morning.
Syed Saddiq started the last 17 km run today from Simpang Sungai Rambai, Melaka, before arriving at his final destination accompanied by a group of “Muo Runners” passing the Sultan Ismail Bridge.
The running mission, which started from the grounds of the Palace of Justice, Putrajaya, aims to raise welfare funds for the residents of Parliament Muar, including donations of food baskets and tablet devices for students in need.
Syed Saddiq informed that the four-day mission had succeeded in collecting RM650,959.21 exceeding the initial target of RM200,000, and promised to channel 100 percent of the funds to help the welfare of the residents of Parliament Muar.
“I am very touched by the extraordinary support of the community, especially in the last 10 kilometers. I really appreciate every donation received, including 50 cents from a child,” he said when met after running in the courtyard of the Muar DPR Member People’s Service Center in Jakarta, today.
He also explained the support received not only from the Muar community, but also from the surrounding community, including from Batu Pahat.
The enthusiasm was shared by Aminah Abd Rahman, 64, and her daughter, Syarifah Fatimah Syed Ali, 26, who volunteered to come from Batu Pahat to provide moral support at the location.
“Not all elected representatives are willing to do this. We follow developments every day through social media and are called upon to provide support and donations,” he said.
