Sultan of Selangor Orders Football Supporters to Maintain Discipline, Team Dignity

KUALA LUMPUR15 Feb (Bernama) — Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah ordered football fans to always maintain discipline, behavior and good manners both inside and outside the stadium, in order to maintain the honor and dignity of the team and the country.

His Holiness said supporters should avoid any action that could invite punishment or fines and channel dissatisfaction through the right channels.

“Keep away from drug waste which can damage morals and thinking. Enthusiastic support must be accompanied by discipline and wisdom,” said His Majesty.

His Majesty conveyed this at the launch and sale of the book Gemilang: The History of Selangor Football Journey in conjunction with Merah Kuning Heritage Day here today.

Sultan Sharafuddin, who is also the Patron of Selangor FC, said that football is the best sporting instrument in uniting multi-ethnic Malaysian society.

His Majesty said that this sport upholds the values ​​of mutual respect and sportsmanship even though the competition between teams is very tight.

“This is the spirit of football that we should remember and inherit,” he said.

His Excellency also expressed the hope that the Selangor team will continue to progress with confidence and preserve the legacy of glory for future generations.

Sultan Sharafuddin recalled Selangor’s glory in the 1960s to 1980s when the team was at the top of the standings and was able to compete at international level even without imported players.

His Majesty said that this success was achieved through efforts to explore the talents of children from each district, in addition to prioritizing discipline, seriousness and a team spirit of love.

This approach has produced big-hearted players and created a strong emotional connection between the team and supporters, he said.
