APMM Perak Arrests Indonesian Fishing Vessels, Careless in National Waters
moss — An Indonesian Foreign Fishing Vessel (VNAI) suspected of carrying out illegal fishing activities in national waters was detained by the Perak State Maritime Enforcement Agency of Malaysia (Malaysian Maritime).
According to Perak State Maritime Director, Maritime Captain Mohamad Shukri Khoto, the ship was captured at around 14.32 during an enforcement operation at a position about 15 nautical miles north of Distance Island yesterday.

“The results of the inspection found that the traditional type of vessel was controlled by four crew members, including the tekong, all of whom were Indonesian citizens aged around 20 to 34 years,” he said.
Further inspection also found that the vessel was suspected of committing an offense under the Fisheries Act 1985 for fishing in Malaysian waters without a valid permit and was also suspected of committing an offense under the Immigration Act 1959/63 for not presenting a valid identity document.
“The entire crew, vessel, fishing equipment and seafood estimated to be worth more than RM2 million have been detained and escorted to the Kampung Acheh Marine Police Pier (PPM) for further investigation.
“Perak State Maritime will continue to intensify patrols and enforcement operations to combat incursions by foreign fishing vessels which not only violate national laws, but also impact local fisheries resources and national water security,” he added.
He also advised the maritime community to channel all information regarding suspicious activities or emergencies at sea via the 999 emergency line or contact the Perak State Maritime Headquarters Operations Center at 05-683 8737 so that immediate action can be taken.
