Five Prison Members Charged in Connection with Incident at Taiping Prison
Five members of the Prisons Department were brought before the Magistrate’s Court today in connection with charges relating to an incident that occurred at Taiping Prison on 17 January 2025.
The Malaysian Prisons Department in a statement informed that the process was the latest development in an ongoing case in court after other prison members were previously charged under Article 304(b) of the Criminal Code for the same incident.
According to the department, of the five people charged today, two of them face charges under Article 324 of the Criminal Code, while three others are charged under Article 323 of the Criminal Code.
“The Department of Prisons fully respects the ongoing legal process and will continue to provide full cooperation to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Attorney General’s Department (AGC) and the courts to ensure that justice is carried out transparently in accordance with the law,” according to the statement.
He said that his party always adheres to the principles of integrity, professionalism and accountability in carrying out its responsibilities as a national correctional institution.
In his statement, his party would not compromise if there were violations that could affect public trust in the institution.
The department also respects every individual’s right to receive a fair trial in accordance with the principle of the supremacy of law and the presumption of innocence until proven by a court, he said.
Therefore, the public is advised not to speculate which could disrupt the course of the judicial process and provide space for the judicial process to be carried out optimally.
