Cambodia asked for help from Malaysia to release 20 military personnel to hold Thailand
Phnom Penh, July 31 (named) – Cambodia has called for the assistance of the Malaysian Armed Forces, who now serves as coordinators and observers of the ceasefire implementation, to release 20 members who are still detained by Thai troops.
According to the report of the Cambodian news officers Agency Agency Kampuchea Presse, Senior Military Officials of Cambodia are talking to the Thai Army to enable the release of all arrested members, quoting the statement of Prime Minister Hun Manet.
In addition, the government is also looking for assistance from the Head of Malaysian Armed Forces Tan Sri Mohd Nizam Jaffar, who currently leads the ceasefire monitoring team.
“I really hope that the Thai troops can return all of our current military personnel in their detention to Cambodia as soon as possible,” Manet said as reported by the agency.
The report also stated that the Commander of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces General Vong Pisen had submitted an official request to Malaysia to assist the release.
Meanwhile, Jurub Jopari General General Maly Socheata told the media that Thai soldiers had surrendered a member’s body, while 20 other Cambodian soldiers were still being arrested.
“Of the 21 Cambodian soldiers under the control of Thai troops, so far we only receive one corpse. Efforts are being made to ensure the remaining 20 people can be brought home safely,” he said.
The armed conflict between Cambodia and Thailand ended at midnight July 28, after the ceasefire agreement was achieved at a special meeting organized by Malaysia in Putrajaya.
