Malaysia Urges Thailand-Cambodia to Stop Hostilities, Do Not Take Military Action – PM Anwar
KUALA LUMPUR, 13 Dec (Bernama) — Malaysia urges Thailand and Cambodia to cease all forms of hostilities and not take further military action, including the use of force or moving armed forces to the front lines, starting at 10pm Thailand-Cambodia time (11pm Malaysian time).
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the call was made in separate telephone conversations with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, following his discussions with United States (US) President Donald Trump, taking into account the ongoing tensions on the two countries’ borders.
“To support efforts to defuse tensions and increase transparency, Malaysia has requested the assignment of the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) led by the Commander of the Malaysian Armed Forces, General Tan Sri Mohd Nizam Jaafar, to monitor the situation on the ground.
“This mission will also be supported by satellite monitoring provided by the US government, which begins at the same time,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Anwar said that field and satellite monitoring findings would be collected by AOT and presented at the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting which is scheduled to take place this Tuesday.
He said the report would provide an objective picture of the current situation, including the positions of both parties for accountability, building trust, and maintaining regional peace and stability.
“Malaysia remains focused on working with ASEAN partners and the international community to ensure dialogue, calm and diplomacy continue to be the mainstay (in dealing with regional tensions),” said Anwar.
