Jakarta, 30 Sept (named) – The Indonesian rescue team on Tuesday tried to detect dozens of students who were suspected of being trapped after the four -storey building from the school that collapsed in East Java, causing at least one person to die while more than 70 was more injured.
Spokesperson for the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Abdul Muhari said 38 people were still missing after Al Khoziny’s dormitory in Sidoarjo District – known as the center of giving birth to scholars since 1927 – collapsed on Monday night during Asar’s prayer.
On Tuesday morning, a total of 102 people were evacuated, with 91 managed to escape, while 11 others were saved and the rescue team. A victim was confirmed to die.
At least 77 injured were taken to the hospital, with 34 treated at Sidoarjo Hospital, 38 at Siti Hajar Hospital and four at Surya Hospital, he said in a statement.
The rescue team from the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), District Disaster Unit, Police, Army and Volunteers were deployed to the location, using heavy machines to clean up the ruins.
According to Abdul Muhari, the incident occurred when the workers poured concrete that mixed upstairs.
“During Asar’s prayer around 3 pm local time, the basic pillar is believed to be unable to overcome the burden, causing the entire structure to collapse to the ground floor,” he said.
Principal KH Abdus Salam Mujib, said the collapsed building was built about nine months ago gradually and not yet completely completed, with only the third floor that was built to function as a student’s activity space.
Earlier this month, the two -storey madrasa building in Bogor, West Java, was still under construction, also killed four people and injured 84 others.
